Background:  Selenelise was raised in the Elven Kingdom of Glitterwood, a place virtually unknown to all Old Worlders, except for a few select tradesmen. Glitterwood, so named for the way the trees took on a metallic sheen when the moonlight hit them, was the focal point for a century-old war between the Elves of the region, vampires and lycanthropes. In the very center of the wood lay the massive city Lunaelen. Long ago sealed magically so that no undead or shape-shifters could enter, the Elves grew comfortable, and over time split into two classes: Warriors and Aristocrats. Selenelise’s parents were aristocrats, her father one of the many mages who transported in traders. Both attended parties almost nightly, which left little time for Selenelise, who was tutored throughout the day.
She learned the history of her people and the hierarchy of her society. Both were of no interest to her, and she began to skip her studies to sneak out and play. She would journey to the vast marketplace and just watch, and this is where she acquired her first glimpse of thievery. The Elves had set up an empire and, through this, contacts from the Old World that they would magically transport in to trade. On one such occasion a group of Humans had been transported in to trade, and Selene was immediately interested; she’d sneak to the Humans encampment and talk with them about what they’d seen and done. But one of the Humans had gotten overzealous and tried to steal from an Elf trader. The marketplace immediately was at the throats of the Humans, and a desperate one grabbed Selene and held a knife to her throat. The band of Humans moved towards the walls of the city and cut their way through a small section of wall, thus dispelling the enchantment of the town.
As soon as they were out of the city’s walls they were attacked by werewolves, which quickly spilled into the town. A large battle erupted, but not before Selene climbed as high as she could. She watched as her people died along with the lycanthropes, and cried herself to sleep that night in the tree. When the battle was over she returned in shame. Many Elves had lost their lives, but the walls were rebuilt and re-strengthened so that only Elves could enter and exit. She kept to her room as the weeks progressed and her parents felt the brunt and loss of social standing from the incident. Horrified at their loss of power, they personally made a show of exiling Selene from her home, sending her to the Old World.
Alone and frightened Selene moved from wood to wood, eventually getting captured, and sold into slavery. She was transported to Nuln and to her new master. Being sheltered most of her life, the young (in Elf terms) Selene was forced to grow up quickly over the past months and had become hardened, every day understanding the world around her a little better. Her new master had one intent for her, so she played along and seduced him, slitting his throat when they were alone. Taking the man’s sword, some traveling supplies and clothes, she escaped from his home and now looks for a quick way out of town.
This is her story, and a record is being kept here:
