Éadnes Andwiltan of Mirkwood - Peter C.

If you have a character in our game, you will find their journal in this area, as well as some stickied threads near the top of the list for songs and stories. As well Player-heroes (PHs), as they are called in The One Ring, have some basic information here concerning how to build them. A journal means you have the opportunity to develop your character's depth to help you be able to get into them, even in a slow-flow forum-based setting such as our game. Have fun with it... using your journal and helping the group with songs may even lead you to gaining experience for posting about them.

I may be wrong but I read I have 11 exp.

To move a weapon skill from two to three costs 11 exp.

I'd choose sword if I'm correct.

I think when you talk of the green numbers you mean on skills not Body, Heart Wisdom and Valor.
I apologize about the changes, Peter, but this will, indeed, make things easier to do. Let me go one thing at a time...

Yes, you do indeed have 11XP.

To move a weapon skill from 2 to 3 for someone who is NOT a Ranger or High-elf is only 8XP, not 11.

I will increase your Sword one rank in a moment, and will get your character sheet uploaded with the new stuff, pronto.

You presently have NO XP on Body, Heart, Wits, so nothing is going to show up there in green, yet. However, you have 5 XP for Wisdom, in green, and 2 XP for Valor. You would NOT be able to increase either of those at this time, you're short 1 XP on each, because it would cost 9XP to increase Wisdom from 2 to 3, you have 3 General XP but only 5 Wisdom-specific XP, right now. It's about the same with Valor, increasing from 1 to 2 costs 6, and again you have 3 General XP and only 2 Valor-specific XP. General XP can be used to augment Specific XP to give you the boost you need to increase anything on the sheet.

As for the changes to Dual Wielding, you can still find them here... viewtopic.php?f=55&t=2895&p=14212#p14212 . They haven't changed much.

Okay, my friend, if you come up with something else to do with those 3 remaining General XP, let me know, please? I'm going to go ahead and start the Step 3 AFTER I change and upload your character record, alright?

That's fine Paul.
I've entered text for the begining of the contest and also a bit more on identity trying to link history to present. It all seems fine today so I'll get back to linking the old story to the Long Path.

Fellowship Phase ~ 3. Disposition of Treasure and Found Items

Unread post by Fieranor of Imladris » 22 Jan 2019, 16:32

Éadnes had no special treasure or found items during the last Adventure Phase, so I'm just going to move you on to Part 4.

Fellowship Phase ~ 4. Standing Upkeep at Home, in a Sanctuary, or at a Holding
Please open this post and scroll down to the title “Standing Upkeep” so you can read what standing is all about. You were able to visit with the Elven-king and make your report during the end of Don't Leave the Path, so I'm going to count that as upkeep spent, even though you're not spending the entire Fellowship Phase there.

Let me catch my breath, here, answer the notification I just received, and I will probably go on to Part 5.

Fellowship Phase ~ 5. Choosing an Undertaking

Unread post by Fieranor of Imladris » 22 Jan 2019, 16:55

Peter, I so enjoy reading what you write... it's evocative and I like it. Thank you.

Since you're always talking about puppet shows, telling stories, and making toys for children, I'll make you a deal, if you want to take it... as a side-deal, if you would like, roll your Craft skill against a TN 14; a basic success will gain 1 gold, and each Image will gain an additional gold. Now, if this is just a story addition for Éadnes, we can go with that, as well, but if it's a consistent thing I think it would be worth something. Alternately, you could have him do this as part of the FPU Heal Corruption, or another FPU to gain something... we could even make up a chart you could roll on for Éadnes for several different types of things, such as information, trade goods, make a little bit of coin, a different means of raising Standing, and other things. What do you say?

Okay, onto the next phase...

Next, during each Fellowship Phase, when a player is done updating their character’s skills, Valor and Wisdom, and/or Attribute values, they may choose to undertake a task, to help keep themselves busy and/or to build some manner of skill or advantage that can be used in the future, for the remainder of the Fellowship Phase.

Players are invited to exercise their creativity and find new and exciting ways to spend a Fellowship Phase. Often, players need look no further than the recently concluded Adventure Phase, as the story that was just completed might have provided several leads worth following, like a new friendship to consolidate or a new sanctuary or patron to be built up. Any activity that could have a lasting impact on a character can be considered an undertaking.

Normally, a player is allowed to choose one activity for their character to undertake. During a longer Fellowship Phase, such as the one at the end of each year, if the LoreMaster agrees, or sees the necessity of a second undertaking, the player may take a second undertaking for their Hero.

If the Company agrees to stay together during a Fellowship Phase, the list of Undertakings for that phase will be listed in the OOC thread for the most recently completed Adventure Phase, and each player is allowed to select a separate undertaking, or the same as a fellow player. However, if the Company has decided to temporarily disband, the following list of Fellowship Phase Undertakings is designed to better fit your Player-hero, their destination and the culture amongst which they will live during the course of the Fellowship Phase.

  • Go to the Market Pool ~ When spending a Fellowship phase in Lake-town, choose this undertaking and spend 2 Treasure to gain an item at +1, or 4 Treasure for a +2 bonus to one of the following:
    • Find a goldsmith to have precious stones set into your sword’s hilt, or gold wrought into a chain, torque, ring, or other piece of jewellery. Gain a bonus to Awe.

    • Visit an ironmonger or a woodwright to buy fine tools appropriate to your favourite trade. Gain a bonus to Craft.

    • Buy a musical instrument of superior make, be it a fiddle, a flute, a drum or a viol, or visit a master luthier to build you a new harp or lyre. Gain a bonus to Song.

    • Learn how to prepare salves and healing herbs and acquire the necessary materials from a hospital healer. Gain a bonus to Healing.

    • Buy robust rope, walking staves, comfortable sleeping cots and a regular supply of cram from a baker (biscuits the Lake-men prepare for long journeys). Gain a bonus to Travel.

    • Visit the shop of a tailor or shoemaker to have a rich dress or a pair of quality shoes made. Gain a bonus to Courtesy.

    • Search the market to find a rare book or old map, or parchment, quills and ink for you to write. Gain a bonus to Lore.

    • See a master hunter to get all you need for your hunting exploits. Gain a bonus to Hunting.

  • Heal Corruption ~ Heroes reduce their current Shadow rating attempting a Craft or a Song roll with TN 14. On a successful roll, they reduce their score by 2 points on a success, 4 points on a great success, and 6 points on an extraordinary success. Characters spending their Fellowship phase in a sanctuary are entitled to two rolls, while heroes who returned home are allowed a single roll instead.

  • Open New Sanctuary ~ In the course of their exploration of Wilderland, the company of adventurers will sooner or later find new places they might consider suitable for resting during a Fellowship phase. If, during an Adventuring phase the company has entered a location and has established friendly relations with its denizens, they can make it a sanctuary, securing permission to enter it regularly to spend a Fellowship phase there.

  • Raise Standard of Living ~ It costs 1 Treasure to spend one month at a Prosperous Standard of Living, and 2 Treasure to spend it at a Rich one. At the end of the month, the character must spend the amount again or revert to his previous Standard of Living.

Players may invest as much Treasure as they like to maintain their characters at a higher Standard of Living for longer periods of time.

  • Write a Song ~ See Rivendell Pages 23-4 for more information.

Once you have decided which undertaking you wish to embark on, please post your plan here, so I can update your character sheet. If a second Fellowship Phase Undertaking is to be allowed, I will determine that and let you know so you can make a second choice from this same list. For your Fellowship Phase Undertaking(s), if you would like to write a story in your character’s journal thread about what they did for the phase, according to your understanding of it, may also benefit them with extra experience. As always, if you have questions about clarifying one or more undertakings, post them in this thread and let’s get out the bugs. Also, if you have an idea you glean inspiration from one of these undertakings for, write it up or let’s discuss it and I’ll see what can be done to alter the existing undertaking, or create a new one just for you; all of the existing FPUs are easy examples, but more can always be created.

Hi Paul,

Used Roll 20 to try and get the skills reminder.
I think I did it incorrectly with the first roll although it said one success.
I think it is correct second time.
Gandalf rune + 2 = 14.

Believe you me, I can fully understand that. It's why, of course, Sarah and I moved to Texas, to take care of her aging folks. God bless you for taking care of yours.

Peter, thank you; that roll will get you one extra gold, which will show up the next time I upload updated copies. When you're rested, please reread that last long post?

1) I'm looking to see if you want me to build something of a Fellowship Phase Undertaking for Éadnes as a craftsman; something akin to paying a visit to the Market-pool? What you've rolled for, here, was just to make a bit more coin during the Winter, not your actual FPU, and

2) I need to know what you want to take, from the list in my last big post, here, as your Fellowship Phase Undertaking, please?

Hi PAul,

i like the idea of a table to discover stuff, even if it is useless.
I will gte back to joinning up my history to the last adventure.
I considered being part of the batlle of the five armies as I am old enough and without good reason would have taken part.
As you can probably tell I want to be 'known' in Erebor, Esgaroth and Dale as harmless, good to talk to and entertaining. The adventurous side being something that grows throught our adventures should I live!

I am happy to increase craft by combining backstory, gold, extra experience etc. I think overhearding, getting invited to hunting parties, being asked to look after children of nobles, all that stuff I am happy to role play or you just write.

Does that help?

Pete

Hi Paul,

I must have misunderstood, I thought you meant to choose one of the bullet points, I was choosing to go to the market pool and buy/make finer woodworking tools to increase my craft. I think I have enought treasure to spend four gold to gain +2 to craft. I probably didn't make that clear or perhaps I have misunderstood. If I am meant to choose something else I would open a new sanctuary here as I would consider my character known by many following the history I wrote.

Yeah, my apologies, but I didn't understand that. I've got it, now, and will make changes, soon, and get the next part of the FP done. I'm right at the end of episode 5 of Valley of the Boom. About 12 minutes.

I apologize about the misunderstanding, Pete... you want to keep your mind busy on a day like today, not be frustrated. Thank you for understanding.

Okay, that was the second-to-last part of the Fellowship Phase for Éadnes; you're done, for now.

I'm thinking, since there's not bee a LOT of response in the thread about the end of The Day of the Black Arrow, which was totally hard on Frerin and Moriel, I'll probably end up explaining the last Quarter of Esgaroth, the Shipyards, then post something to end the first day of Dragontide. Most likely I'll end up combining the last two days of Dragontide and, perhaps, even the rest of the festival month, and go straight to the Coronation. I'm not certain how much pomp and circumstance I would want to put into that, but I don't imagine the First Gathering is going to gain much more steam than it already has. However, I'll need to figure out from here where to take you all, and part of that comes in the OOC thread. I hope folks will answer, and soon.

Take it easy, Peter, you and Elaine both, and God bless you. Again, you have my condolences.

Understood, on both fronts. Sarah and I are still smarting, and it's still pretty close, from Mom's death in mid-November, so that's three months, but it does get better, I promise.
