Wizard/Wicket ~ Act One (Abracadabra)

This is where our game will be hosted, our adventures to be played. Come, read and enjoy, play and enjoy a world, our world, fraught with action and danger, thought and resolution, to rid it of invaders who are not simply misunderstood, but bent on committing extraordinary acts of evil, sewing harm among the denizens of not only our realms, but of their own as well, and reaping the vast Possibility energy. They must be stopped, and you are one who can.

Wizard/Wicket ~ Act One (Abracadabra)

Unread postby Sir Alain Fisk » 31 Jan 2014, 15:55

Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Near the Southern End of the Eastern Living Land
Just prior to the beginning of our adventure, September 2013

The misting rain in Atlanta fell among the fog-strewn streets of the city, bustling much less with the invasion of the Living Land, the forthcoming hordes of Edeinos, Optants, and other Jakatts -followers of the Faith of Life, obeying the will of Lanala- roaming in the places they could find information without exposure. Over the past several weeks, each of you had found dead denizens of the wild realm, only dozens of miles North and West of the city, little more than dried up husks, though it seemed the moment you felt like the city might be safe, again, more would turn up.

Then the ritual killings began, and you would find groups splayed in patterns in back alleys, their bodies stripped bare of any
dead things they may have treasured in their final days and hours. Only days ago, however, you detected that the Lizardmen, and their religious leaders, had been trying to perform a ritual that might have ended in the implantation of a Stellae, so they might expand their influence into this area. It had failed, but the authorities, along with the Delphi Council, were now onto it.

People who found out, and told others, had begun a panic that swept through the entire population of Atlanta within hours, and armed gangs formed within hours more. This became immediately unacceptable, the Mayor's Task Force on Living Land Activities and Intelligence had immediately called for the assistance of any Storm Knights in the area willing to track down and, more or less, rescue any group of Edeinos performing one of these rituals. The ritual, of course, was to be stopped, at all costs, and then the group brought in for interrogation and questioning.

Tonight, armed with new intelligence and an actual reason to save the lives of those you would, normally, slay where they stood, you are caught in the cacophony of sirens all over the city -the police trying to stop any vigilante or lynch mob trying to find and ruin any plans denizens of the Living Land might have, and fire and ambulance for the groups and problems the cops can't get to-, and you're hot on the trail of one such group, when you run into a stranger emerging from an alleyway*.

Out-Of-Character ∴ Alright guys this is, obviously, some manner of introduction, but I have NOT YET begun Wizard, so just bear with me for some role-playing, please? Likely by Sunday afternoon, I will actually introduce Wizard.

"Good evening," Nix says, as if we all already know each other, and steps to his left at the alley's mouth to put the wall of the building behind him.

With practiced hands and a quick shrug, he adjusts his tuxedo as he regards each of the armed people (PCs) at this end of the alley. The largish. cylindrical bulge under the jacket ruins the tux's sleek lines.

"Vigilantes," he offers, as if that explains enough, indicating a direction back down the alley with a quick toss of his head.

Out-Of-Character ∴ Any role-playing anyone wants to join Anthony (Nix) in? I'll happily postpone starting the actual adventure for some role-playing! :D

Running across the road Jack weaved in and out of the traffic. Nearly getting knocked down, a car sounded its horn. Making it to the pavement Jack stopped to catch his breath. He pulled a mobile phone out of his pocket and made a call.

"Ok I've got them. Two blocks up from where you are. I'm at the end of an alley. I'll wait for you here" Jack said ending the call and slipping his phone back into his back pocket.

Noticing a figure emerge from the shadows Jack checked his hands for a weapon, but then seeing his attire Jack realised he wasn't part of the vigilantly group he had been tracking.

"Good evening," Nix says, as if we all already know each other, and steps to his left at the alley's mouth to put the wall of the building behind him.

With practiced hands and a quick shrug, he adjusts his tuxedo as he regards each of the armed people at this end of the alley. The largish. cylindrical bulge under the jacket ruins the tux's sleek lines.

"Vigilantes," he offers, as if that explains enough, indicating a direction back down the alley with a quick toss of his head.

“Evening, yeah nasty group this lot........” Jack replied stopping halfway through his sentence noticing the group of vigilantes had spotted them talking and had started moving in their direction.

“Shit..” Jack muttered, as he felt for his Beretta which was tucked in the back of his trousers, feeling some relief in its presence Jack watched to see what the vigilantes did next

Out-Of-Character ∴ Alright, you guys are all together, though you may have been running separately -in a city filled with vigilante gangs looking for unusual people- until you meet up to pursue a group down the alley from which McKinley Nix has just come. My idea, and I guess I didn't express this well-enough, for which I apologize, is to have you guys working on adventures and inter-adventure pieces, as well. My fault.

Coming towards the alley from the opposite side as Jack, Matthias arrives a few seconds later.

McKinley Nix wrote:"Vigilantes," he offers, as if that explains enough, indicating a direction back down the alley with a quick toss of his head.

"Jack, we need to move. The vigilantes will have covered more ground if we stay too long." Turning to the stranger Matthias continues, "If you would like to find out more about this newcomer, I can scout on ahead. Either way, it is best we do not linger too long."

"This group is looking for some payback of the 5 against 1 variety. They feel entitled to my hard-won evidence, and I am not inclined to give it to them."

Nix looks at each of you, noting the urgency and desire for haste, but taking advantage of this chance to catch his breath.

Out-Of-Character ∴ Alright, much better; thank you... I don't know why my son hasn't posted for Pepper, yet... he's not been receiving notifications, and the game hasn't started, as yet, this is role-playing to get Anthony into the group. He'll likely put something in tomorrow morning.

For those of you with cards in your signature block, in your private forum, or in your journal forum, please delete all of these? Each new adventure requires drawing four new cards, each. Someone has a Subplot card, but I think it was Dr. Random, and he's left the group, so it wouldn't matter, anyway. If it was someone else who had the Subplot card, please let me know, so you can be rewarded sufficiently? Also, card play will be handled and posted by me, from now on... I'll simply ask which card, if any, you want to have posted from your Hand to your Pool, and then you can expend from your Pool, as normal, by telling me which card you would like to spend.

Oh, and I'll let you know when I'll need your rolls for the cards.

Alexander rushes around the corner, spotting his compatriots chatting with a man in a tuxedo at the end of an alley. He approaches the group and begins speaking immediately, interrupting any conversation that may be happening.

"I lost sight of them," he says. Turning to the stranger, as if regarding him for the first time, he continues, "And who might this be?"

he folds his arms over his jacket as he stares at the man, sizing him up. Something about him seems different from the locals, aside from the obvious difference in attire.

With only the light over the back door of the restaurant, you see a flash of Caucasian skin on the chin of the man in the baseball cap, as he pulls it back over his head, before all of his features are plunged back into shadow. He bends down to help up one of his compatriots, then bends again to pick up his baseball bat. When he stands, again, looking toward your end of the alley, the arm holding the bat drops to his side, he turns his head back to say something to his pals, and then his whole body follows down the alleyway from which he fist emerged to attack Nix.

Out-Of-Character ∴ My friends, if there is more role-playing to be had, I welcome it and will, again, postpone so you can do that. In fact, if the role-playing is good enough, you guys can, more or less, determine where you want to go on the world, IF you've been reading everything I've been giving you in other threads concerning background, history, and particulars for this game.

Otherwise, if you all agree, we can simply say that Nix has now become a relatively close friend, a compatriot continuing to run with you into and out of the Eastern Living Land to deliver supplies and... other sorts of help, to those who will not leave the Living Land, because it's their home. As for the reality bomb, I welcome you guys to come up with something for that. Be careful what you might do, though; if you decide to keep it, and anyone finds out...

Stealing a quick, edge of an eye, glance down the alley, Nix watches the thugs move before turning his attention back to the men before him on the street.

"Nix... McKinley Nix," he says by way of response to the question from the late-comer. "Problem Solver... retired."

"By the look of you all, I get an idea of what sort of things you have been up to tonight, and I wonder if you wouldn't mind escorting me to a safer location so I can keep something of extreme importance out of ignorant, or enemy hands."

Out-Of-Character ∴ Just a little taste, though our course does not change this moment...

The wizard stepped away from his work table, removed his glasses, and wiped them with a dirty cloth, smearing the grease more than removing it. Replacing the glasses onto his long nose, he once again bent to examine the item on the table.

"I have no choice, Quebert," the wizard said to the cat-sized light-brown dragon sitting on his shoulder, holding the note up for the dragon to read. "I must kill Bishop Bernard ..."
