Faerod of Hainlen
Human Ranger

BACKGROUND
Birthplace:  Hainlen
Family:  Mother and a step-father.  He also has two younger step-brothers and one step sister.
Social Level:  Common
Religion:Like all sensible Rieklanders he pays homage to all the Gods when the time is right.  Naturally for a man of the road he pays most homage to Taal, God of wild places for good weather and safe passage.  His worship of Taal is from necessity, rather than specific devotion.  It seems odd to him to consider any God superior than any other, they all have their own dominion.
Class:  Ranger/Adventurer
Career:  Roadwarden; Outrider
Exits:  Scout, Highwayman, Mercenary

Background:  Faerod grew up in the village of Haenlin, about 20 miles South East of Altdorf, along the Reik River. His father died young while serving in the militia, forcing he and his mother to run the family farm as best as they could on their own. At sixteen he had the unlikely oppourtunity to become a roadwarden, and did so against his mothers wishes. By this time his younger sister was fourteen and was able to help out around the farm well enough for the two of them to manage. As the months went by, Faerods mother began to accept his new job - this being made easier by the steady income he was bringing into the family. She still worried for her son, but knew he was capable enough to manage the dangers of the road.
All was well for the family over the next three years, with them slowly climbing out of poverty, or least up to a more manageable level of it. At seventeen his sister married a local smith's son and moved out of the home, leaving their mother to tend to the farm herself. Faerods income was easily enough for them to live in some comfort however, and over time the farm became more of a family garden - growing just enough to feed the two of them. By this time Faerod was routinely tasked with leading small parties on raids and investigations, giving him a sense of duty and earning himself a bit of respect from his seniors.
Unfortunately family life took a turn for the worse just after his twentieth birthday, when his mother came down with a terrible cold and passed on. After a month of mourning, and with no one left to depend on him, Faerod decided to see the world while he was still young. He sold the family farm, said goodbye to his sister and friends, and rode to Altdorf in search of adventure.

Personality:
Faerod is generally quite sociable though he is prone to more reserved periods where he gets lost in thought and shy's away from others. Coming from a poor background he rarely refuses an oppourtunity to better himself materially, but his background in law enforcement keeps his pursuits quite honest most of the time.

Description:
Faerod has been toughened from his years of hardships protecting the Imperial highways.  He typically wears cheap brown waterproof leathers.  They seem heavily patched but by necessity they are still serviceable.  He wears a dark wide brimmed hat which keeps the sun off in the summer and the rain and snow in the winter.  In the band of the hat he carries three raven feathers.  When he is forced to bury the dead out in the wilderness he will lay one feather over the grave to guide the soul to Morr's realm.  He can usually be seen with his this tattered, sun bleached green cloak.  He carries his axe with him at all times while out on the road.  It's tough and reliable, the same qualities he sees in himself.  He has a horse called Vertrauen which he keeps his few possessions.  The horse is professionally packed for the road, with spare weapons, bedrolls and gear.

First Impression:
Most people meet Faerod on the road.  He will either be splattered with mud, or covered in dust.  Faerod is very rarely clean.  He will have a full dark brown beard from which is eyes peer from under his hat.  Faerod seems to be confident and well armed on horseback.  On the road he definitely is master of the situation, any city dweller, or man on foot will feel intimidated by his presence.  However, in the plush opulence of a Nuln salon, the situation would be quite different!
This is his story, and a record is being kept here:
