Hello, and welcome to my writer's resumé. Yes, this sort of resumé is going to be unconventional, not only because of how it's written, but because of the fact this is a living document, and will be edited periodically to reflect new experiences and articles I've had the pleasure to write. All that is to be included -in this order- are some basics about my writing history, an autobibliography (after all, an autobiography is a history of a person's life written or told by that person, so why shouldn't an autobibliography be a history of a person's works as written or told by that person?), and then a listing -a resumé, if you will- of the experiences that helped shape the person I am today.
Certainly, a great deal of my history is unnecessary to write about, here, as my life is no less and no more interesting or boring than many of yours, and few of my experiences are truly unique; that's why I'll save those for later. For now, all you should need to know is that I've been writing since I was ten years of age, having been heavily influenced by television shows such as the original Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Space: 1999 and, of course, Star Wars and Star Trek. As the years have passed I've become more and more interested in the varied genre' of fantasy (Lord of the Rings, Dragonslayer), detective stories, super heroes (Batman, Superman), science horror (Aliens, Pitch Black), and covert operations/homeland security (Soldier of Fortune, Mission Impossible). Although all of the listings in the previous sentence are movies and television shows, believe me when I tell you I've read a great many books.
My goal(s) for the future include completing my education in Homeland Security -perhaps even Criminal Psychology- studies, as far as a Bachelor's, for now, and I have eleven writing projects -nine novels and two role-playing projects- I intend to get done, if I can truly put myself into a career of writing. As for beyond that, only God can tell, but I would love to get into writing script treatments for feature-length films; that, however, is a while in coming.
For a real-world resume, please click here! and, for an absolutely complete non-gaming resume, take a look at the resume my friend Scott and I constructed for the DoD.
Below is a living list of the writing I have done, by freelance articles, novels, role-playing games (games, supplements, adventures, and on-line play-by-post), and miscellaneous works. Some of what you will see will have links to the articles themselves, whether they are for purchase (role-playing materials) or simply a free download.
Thank you for visiting this site, and I hope you find what you're looking for from me, here. If not, please feel free to email me at paul.emerson@wolvesau.net. |

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Before going into the Army in 1993, I acquired an Associates of Occupational Studies Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design from ITT Technical Institute in Aurora, Colorado. Each time I attempted to use my degree for the purpose of drafting, which I felt I could really enjoy, each company that hired me only wanted me for purposes of data entry. I was not trained to perform data entry back then, although I've trained myself to do it since, and they should have put me where my degree said I should be, in a drafting position.
While in the United States Army, between March of 1993 and March of 1999, I was trained as a Combat Medic and served in an Army Reserve unit for about eight months. I decided my Reserve unit was "ate up like a soup sandwich" and signed on to six years of active duty. I re-trained to become a UH-60 Blackhawk Utility Helicopter mechanic, and was shipped off to Germany for three years. During that time, I participated in Operation Joint Endeavor and managed to accumulate quite a few experiences I would rather forget and can't. When my friends and I came home from service in Bosnia, I was only a few months away from a Permanent Change of Station back to the United States, to serve at Fort Carson, Colorado. En route to my next duty station, however, I attended the Aviation Life Support Equipment Technician school in Fort Rucker, Alabama, and learned a great deal about the equipment in use at the time.
On leaving the Army I found myself to be under-trained and almost non-employable, and so I began seeking ways to make myself a marketable person. Unfortunately, while working at a temporary job towards the end of 1999, I found out my wife was sleeping with my best friend. I went to prison as a result of trying to set my marriage right, and so now not only do I have a rather unique perspective concerning the overflowing prisons in our nation, but I am also still engrossed in the fight for my own children.
Once I left the prison gates I began the search in even more earnest to make myself marketable, and as such began going to a relatively new course to become a Homeland Security Specialist. Unfortunately, to get into many positions in this nation, now, one has to have not only the college, but more often than not a very difficult to obtain security clearance. Although my security clearance from the Army is still in an inactive status, I seek to reactivate it despite the difficulties of my recent past, so I may serve this country again in a non-armed position. Each of my instructors, while I was in school, were not short of compliments about my natural ability to think through exercises concerning counter-terrorism, and each of them encouraged me to finish the line of degrees that may aid me in helping this country. Unfortunately, to this point, I've yet to be able to advance further.
In April of 2005, the Site Supervisor for Sikorsky Support Services, Incorporated, was able to look beyond my prior criminal record, and put me to work in a capacity as a UH-60 Blackhawk mechanic. I did everything in my power to show my best integrity and worth to this company, and worked to the best of my ability, hoping to never allow him to regret his decision. Unfortunately, in October of 2006 I was laid off from the company as a result of ignorance on the parts of the powers that be.
As with most people in the world, I have experiences which have helped to shape who I am and how I think and believe. Unlike many people in the world, I also have the skill and desire to be able to write about them, not only for my own welfare and well-being, but also so others may learn from my many faux pas' over the short course of my life. It would be nice to be able to make a living in this way, and that's why this page has been constructed. I truly hope you've been able to find what you're looking for, here; if not, let's talk and see what I can do. I adapt to circumstances and requirements set on me very well.
~Paul
