In each section, where necessary, will be a short guide to help you understand where to go to get done what you need to. Not every one of these sections will have links in them, such as this one.
Pushing the CONTRACTS button, above, will send potential employers to our fee schedule page, which may also contain a link to the form for making a contract with Armageddon Unlimited. HISTORY will allow anyone to read the rather extensive history of this mercenary unit; it's a long history, and broken into four parts to represent each of the four iterations of the Wolf Family Mercenary Unit thus far. UNIT NEWS brings you up-to-date on the most recent real-world, League, and unit news available. ROSTER takes you to the current, historical, and role-playing rosters for Armageddon Unlimited; this unit has a proud fluff history, but also a distinguished on-line history. Many folks who've been playing for a long time may not have heard of AU, but we were active from 1998 - 1999 and again from 2002 - 2004; this time we'll be here much longer.
On this page you'll find out what you need to do when first starting in AU, followed by what jobs are available in the unit and, finally, what our battle standard, what some may call a logo or patch, looks like and stands for.
If you believe, after reviewing this web site and asking any questions you may have, that you're interested in joining Armageddon Unlimited, then feel free to fill out the Join Form and we'll welcome you into the Training Command of the unit. Everyone coming into the unit first-time begins in the Training Command as a Cadet, what many of you call a Noob (which term is only meant as an appelation of affection, and otherwise not acceptable, in this unit). Your rank and position within Armageddon Unlimited is almost solely dependent on your attitude, participation, and the trust you engender in others. If you act with honor and integrity with us, treat your fellows and your opponents with decency on and off the battlefield, finish your studies in the Operations Manual, and become involved with making the unit grow, there is almost no limit to what you can do. Creativity and dedication are encouraged and rewarded, as long as such do not go against the tenets of AU, are not illegal, immoral or stupid, and do not involve sacrifing our honor or our equipment. To get started on your journey with us, report to The Parade Field for orders and training.
For those looking to see what manner of rewards are present in Armageddon Unlimited, please take a look at the Awards page.
All of the requirements to play in the leagues and MMOGs we participate in with Armageddon Unlimited will be posted here based on the rules of the place(s) we play.
This is the uniform patch worn on the Armageddon Unlimited uniform; it was designed new in 3066 to commemorate our sixtieth anniversary as an active mercenary unit. The green to the lower left of the field (the background of the patch) stands for hope, joy, and loyalty in love. Since AUs inception as Wolf's Cavaliers in 3006, not only our mercenary unit, but our loved ones, our land, and our right to exist have been threatened by elements both within and without our borders. We have come through it all anything but unscathed, although we are richer in hope and joy, though we have always shown our loyalty to our varied employers with the best love they could be given, which is defined by the word service.
The gold to the upper right of the field stands for generosity and elevation of the mind. Several times over these six decades we have shown our generosity, often at great expense to our collective livelihood, not only to fellow mercenary and house units, but also to planetary populations and even those in the rim worlds. Our warriors strive to reach enlightenment and educational standards above those of the rest of the Inner Sphere, elevating our minds at each opportunity.
These colors come from The Wolf's family crest as based on his lineage, and have been incorporated here as a sign of his ultimate dedication to Armageddon Unlimited.
The three wolves bursting from the field are representative of the founding members of Armageddon Unlimited, Gary "Spike" Morehead (the original unit training OIC and 9:2 kill ratio holder), Jerry "LightScout/Ranger" Stewart (the original Executive Officer of AU), and Kay "Gideon" Wolf (the Commanding Officer of AU). Without these men, Armageddon Unlimited would still be only a paper BattleTech unit.
Following is a listing of the hardest to fill and most necessary "jobs" in Armageddon Unlimited, in order from most to least necessary. If a position is listed as "Filled by..." and a name is given, that position may no longer be available. If a position has multiple slots, although all slots have not been filled, yet, feel free to apply for that position. In order to fill a position, you must fill the requirements of the listing as well as any rank and previous position requirements that may be required by the Command Staff, even if they are not listed here.
MechWarriors (unlimited positions): MechWarriors are listed first, because this unit always needs new blood, and MechWarriors are the life blood of Armageddon Unlimited, whether role-playing or on-line gaming. New MechWarriors bring new tactics, new ideas, and new fervor to the unit. If you don't want any of the below listed positions, and would rather play casually, come and play as a MechWarrior. Then, if you prove to yourself and others you are able to do and take on more, make it happen. If you have ideas of your own to help the unit grow and advance bring them with you, present them to your NCOIC and let the chain of command work properly, and if your idea has merit, you'll likely get to do it and/or it will become a part of AU, and you'll gain rank, awards and prestige. This is your unit, do something with it!
Commanding Officer (CO): Filled by both Colonel Kay "Gideon" Wolf (aka Captain Yvonne "Red" Ignatova of Ignatova's Instigators) (RP) and Captain Jerry "LightScout" Stewart (OG). The CO is responsible for maintaining unit cohesion, for keeping things running, and to be there for the troops when possible (barring administrative/logistic duties). It's necessary for the CO to be available for battles and training so the troops will feel it necessary to be there as well, although administrative and logistic duties take quite a bit of time. The CO also maintains the unit roster and continues the rank and award structure of MechWarriors active in the unit, to give a sense of accomplishment, to keep up morale, and to make more people want to come to the unit when recruited. The CO may delegate many of these duties, although not all of them, to other members of the Officer staff, especially the unit Command Staff. This is a Command Staff position.
Executive Officer (XO): Filled by both Colonel Jerry "LightScout" Stewart (aka need character name) (RP) and Lieutenant Kay "Gideon" Wolf (OG). The XO is responsible for assisting in the completion of responsibilities of the CO so he may have an opportunity to execute the remainder of his duties, namely participating in battles and training with the unit. Typically, the XO is also responsible for unit discipline -including disciplinary actions, courts martial, etc.-, scheduling of events and activities, maintaining unit member dossiers, and diverting the lead Non-Commissioned Officers and Line Officers from direct contact with the CO when necessary and possible. This is an appointed position, left to the Command Staff and the Commanding Officer of the unit. This is a Command Staff position.
Legal Affairs Officer (LAO): A keen sense of right and wrong, as well as full knowledge of the unit, including the rules defined in the Officer's Manual, and finally the rank of Captain or higher, whether a Line or Administrative Officer, are needed to assume this position. The LAO is responsible for hearing cases between individuals, between Enlisted and Officer personnel, and between either Enlisted or Officer and Command Staff personnel, and for deciding in the best interests of the unit first, then the immediate group, then the individual -in that order- the best course of action to be had by all parties involved. The LAO, with the backing of 2/3rds of the Command Staff, is responsible and authorized to countermand non-military/non-deployment orders (these include any order given while not facing an enemy or being contracted to face an enemy) given by the CO and/or XO if those orders are clearly against the positive functioning or longevity of Armageddon Unlimited. With backing by all of the Command Staff, including the XO, the LAO may countermand any orders given by the CO; however, the reasons had better be good. This is a Command Staff position.
Training Line Officer (TLO): The XO will serve in this position until a Line Officer of the rank Captain, or higher, is appointed or volunteers for the position. Preferred qualifications, in order of importance, are previous officer experience in Armageddon Unlimited, previous training officer experience in MechWarrior units outside AU, current or previous military experience -especially experience in Combat Line Units- and/or, finally, previous Non-Commissioned Officers or Enlisted members of AU. The TLO must know the Training Program from the Officer's Manual and must be capable of executing and gauging the execution by others of each section of the Training Program. Recommendations for improvements to the Training Program and Doctrine are welcome as long as they fit within the guidelines and intent of this unit and that which is accepted in the Officer's Manual. Scheduling training, practices, and skirmishes is at the discretion of the TLO, including assignment of Cadre Line Officers (CLO) or Cadre NCOs (CNCO) to perform the training as long as cadets are available to train. This position requires the most dedication in the unit, second only to the CO and XO, and is estimated to require a minimum of twelve hours in training operations per week. Finally, the TLO is responsible for the appointment of CLOs and CNCOs, although their appointment(s) may be brought into question by the Command Staff, the XO, and/or the CO. This is a Command Staff position.
Cadre Line Officer (CLO; 3 positions): Any individual Officer-ranked at least one level below the TLO -meaning 2nd Lieutenant or higher- may be assigned to a training officer position. The CLO follows the Training Program in accordance with the TLOs directives and attends training sessions as arranged between the CLO and the TLO -this means if you negotiate a time to work with cadet(s) at the TLOs request, you are REQUIRED to participate at that time, barring RL emergencies, whether the cadet(s) show for training or not.
Top Gun Instructor (TGI): This individual must necessarily be a 3:1 Kill Ratio Baseline (KRB) MechWarrior, an NCO -at least on E5- and willing to hold competitions within AU, among the unit members, and between Combat Teams. Top Gun is a competition, held at the leisure of the Top Gun Instructors, although at least twice annually, which pits those of like KRBs against each other in one-on-one ladder competitions to see who is the best of the best. Players move up the ladder as they fight, their KRBs being improved as they prove themselves in the competition. Top Guns are held at various levels of AU -Lance, Company, Battalion, and Regiment- individually, and then between the winners of those two sub-units for the AU Masters Competition.
Cadre Non-Commissioned Officer (CNCO; 3 positions): Any individual of NCO rank -E5 to E8- may be assigned to a training NCO position. The CNCO follows the Training Program in accordance with the TLOs, as well as their assigned CLOs, directives and attends training sessions as arranged between the CNCO and the TLO/CLO -this means if you negotiate a time to work with cadet(s) at the TLOs request, you are REQUIRED to participate at that time, barring RL emergencies, whether the cadet(s) show for training or not.
Liaison Officer (LO): If you like people and have an eye for talent, skill, and the art of bluffing, then this job is for you. You are the "face" of Armageddon Unlimited, and are responsible for using that face to gain new cadets and members for our fine unit, to put a good personal public image out for others to see -public relations-, and for aiding in contract negotiation. The qualifications for this position are that you must be a Captain, either a Line or Administrative Officer, well-read in the Officer's Manual, and familiar with contracting -Mercenaries Handbook 3055; ask for a run-down of the section if you don't have it- practices of Armageddon Unlimited and the reputation(s) of those you are likely to negotiate with. Other members of Armageddon Unlimited may recruit individuals, who will fill out the Join Form for our unit and you will receive a copy of their filled form to help indoctrinate them into the unit and enter them into any database this unit may possess. You will also be required to know the rules of OpSec (Operational Security) and SAEDU (Subversion and Espionage Directed Against the Unit) and, in accordance with these, be aware of what information is allowed to be made public, and what information is not; ie - good judgement before opening your mouth. This is a Command Staff position.
Command Sergeant Major of Armageddon Unlimited (CSMAU): This is an appointed position by the Command Staff, including the CO and XO, of the highest ranking Non-Commissioned Officer in Armageddon Unlimited. This individual carries out the orders and directives of the CO and XO and is responsible only to them. Although the CSMAU may not give orders and directives to Officers of any rank, they may strongly suggest or recommend courses of action, based on their wisdom and experience, the officer(s) should follow. The CSMAU is responsible for all Enlisted personnel in the unit and acts as a mediator between Enlisted and Officer ranks. This is a Command Staff position.
Officer Aids: Any of the Officers and NCOs who've taken positions in any of the jobs listed above may need help from time-to-time, and therefore are open for volunteers. If you feel froggy, jump, and contact the Officer or NCO heading up that department.
*NOTE: As jobs are opened, created, filled, or vacated, this page will be updated on as regular a basis as possible.
